Homework
- perhaps Home Challenge
would be a better name !! s
Homework ideas: *
Finish class work * Memorize a poem, the states, the presidents * Study
* Handwriting * Write in a journal or write an essay * Spelling *
Grammar * Read aloud * Read silently
Homework should be using well understood skills.
Homework is NOT to teach. It is to develop learning habits, and provide reinforcement.
Amount of Homework should follow your District and School guidelines.
Possible Guidelines: First-Second: 20 minutes plus 5 minutes
read aloud time and 10 minutes reading to yourself. Planned as 20 minutes
after school, 5 minutes read aloud time to Mom and/or Dad before or after dinner,
and 10 minutes to read in bed before lights out. Third: 20 minutes
plus 5 minutes read aloud time and 20 minutes to read in bed before lights out.
Fourth: 30 minutes plus 10 minutes read aloud time and 25 minutes
to read in bed before lights out. Fifth: 45 minutes plus 10 minutes
read aloud time and 30+ minutes to read in bed before lights out. Sixth:
50 minutes plus 10 minutes read aloud time and 30+ minutes to read in bed before
lights out. Homework should be fun while reinforcing
aready learned facts and skills. Some Example:
Wordsearches/ Crossword puzzles/other Puzzles for Spelling, Vocabulary
Drawing Literature, Science / Social Studies-diagrams and charts
Create tests Homework return should
be 100%- NO excuses. Start with easy / short assignments. Slowly increase
the amount given. There must be consequences for no homework returned. Consequences
do need to mesh with what other teachers in your school do.
